Review of Non-Fiction Science Picture Books for Pre-School Children

Abstract

Science education in preschool period can be done using different methods and techniques. One of these methods and techniques is the practices committed with pictorial children books that give science-themed information and narrated pictorial children books that give science-themed information. It is thought that pictorial children books that give science-themed are important in terms of developing children's scientific vocabulary. In this study, starting from this scope, it was aimed to examine the pictorial children books that give science-themed selected from different press. The research was carried out using the document analysis method, one of the descriptive research models. The research data were collected through the "Assessment List for Pictorial Children Books That Give Science-Themed" and the "Assessment Scale for Pictorial Story Books" developed by the researcher to evaluate pictorial children books that give science-themed selected from different press. According to the results of the research; make evaluations of pictorial children books that give science-themed for preschool children using the "Assessment Scale for Pictorial Story Books", all the books are at a sufficient level, the most narrated pictorial children books that give science-themed are being prefered, the problem solving process is included in most of the books, the scientific content is mostly it has been seen that the book has, among the science standard fields, life science is the most, and environmental and weather events are mostly included as the subject, the number of scientific words is given enough rate, and most of the books are suitable for science education. Suggestions were made in the light of the research results.
