Review of Recent Research on Nanoparticle Production in Thailand

Abstract: Powder technology has already extended its scope of interest to nanoparticles with novel properties and functionalities. Since the establishment of the National Nanotechnology Center (NANOTEC) in 2003, research activities in nanotechnology have shot up remarkably, including the production of nanoparticles via physical, chemical and biological methods. This article reviews and introduces recent works on nanoparticle production in Thailand, especially NANOTEC and her nation-wide network of Centers of Excellence.… Show more

“…Zinc oxide is used as a photocatalyst because it has a comparable band-gap with value 3.2 eV which reflected the relatively large activity of zinc oxide [28][29][30][31]. It has great potential applications in room temperature such as ceramic, UV-lasers, sensors, electronics, catalysis, paint and other fields due to the chemical and physical properties like nontoxic, high chemical stabilization, low cost, good photo-electric, high surface area, small particle size, optical and electrical properties [1,2,[32][33][34][35]. Fire combustion synthesis is recognized as low solution combustion synthesis and it used for the fabrication of simple and complex inorganic compounds [6,22,[36][37][38].…”

“…Nanotechnology, involved in many multidisciplinary research areas, is recognised as a revolutionary manufacturing technology in the 21st century. Nanoparticles refer to ultrafine particles, whose sizes are in the range from 1 to several 100 nm (Charinpanitkul, Faungnawakij, & Tanthapanichakoon, 2008). Due to a high surface-to-volume ratio of nanoparticle, solubility and bioavailability of a hydrophobic compound is significantly increased.…”

“…The country has established a National Nanotechnology Center (NANOTEC) within the NSTDA, which has boosted up the nanotechnology R&D in the country (Charinpanitkul et al 2008; Tanthapanichakoon The country has already established the Nanosafety Information Center of Thailand (NICT) and further prepared three Nanosaftey Guidelines i.e. for (i) factory workers, (ii) university researchers, (ii) for general public (Tanasugarn 2012).…”
