Abstract

supp "Dramatic," "heart-wrenching," "inspiring" are not typical words that one uses in a review of a scientific book, but these are appropriate adjectives to describe many of the accounts that comprise the book. This 512-page book operates under two guises; one, as a well-organized compendium of listener accounts where the incredible events and experiences related to music are exposed with scientific diligence yet commented on in a sympathetic fashion, reminiscent of Oliver Sacks's Musicophilia (2007). The second one is to provide a scientific descriptive system that organizes the wide spectrum of these extraordinary musical experiences. Both of these provide a truly fascinating reading.
