Reviews the book, The Dynamics of Interviewing: Theory, Technique, and Cases by R. L. Kahn and C. F. Cannell . Any effort is commendable that seeks to counter the lack of definitiveness and the impressionistic approach that have characterized so much writing on the subject of interviewing. This volume represents such an effort. It is an ambitious attempt to integrate theory and research findings systematically, its focus being on the information-getting interview rather than on the therapeutic interview. It is particularly suited to the student, but should also prove valuable reading for the more sophisticated, whether in clinical psychology, personnel work, attitude research, or some other field of endeavour where the interview is used as a source of information.
