The development of emerging technologies not only has recently affected current industrial production but also has generated promising manufacturing opportunities that impact significantly on social and economic factors. Exploring upcoming renovation tendencies of technologies prematurely is essential for governments, research and development institutes, and industrial companies in managing strategies to achieve dominant advantages in business competitiveness. Additionally, the prospective changes, the scientific research directions, and the focus of technologies are crucial factors in predicting promising technologies. On the other hand, Industry 4.0 revolutionizes standards and models by accompanying significant technology developments in numerous sectors, including the sector of Smart energy. Moreover, asset performance management is always a prominent topic that has attained prevalence over the last decade because numerous challenges force all industrial companies to optimize their asset usability. However, to the best of our knowledge, no study reported an analysis of technology trends of asset performance management in the Smart energy sector by using proper data mining methods. Hence, this paper aims to fill in this gap and provide an analysis of technology trends of asset performance management in the Smart energy sector by structuring and exploring research subjects, considering problems, and solving methods with numerous experiments on scientific papers and patent data.

Condition assessment of medium voltage assets is essential to ensure reliability and costeffective operation of power distribution networks. This article presents a literature review of condition assessment of medium voltage assets related to a distribution system in a noninterconnected zone in Colombia, namely, power transformers, photovoltaic systems, switchgear, lines and cables, and instrument transformers. Advanced search rules are formulated to obtain bibliographic records of relevant academic literature from the database Scopus. The retrieved data are analyzed quantitatively to provide insights on the current state of research on the topic. Next, the most relevant academic papers for each medium voltage asset are selected and analyzed in a critical review along with more diverse literature including standards, technical reports, and white papers obtained through complementary searches. The results of the review show that several approaches have been formulated for condition assessment of medium voltage assets, ranging from traditional diagnostic methods to advanced artificial intelligence-based approaches. Moreover, research on some assets is already mature including power transformers, and photovoltaic systems, whereas other assets have been incipiently studied such as distribution and instrument transformers. Therefore, the need for deeper condition assessment research for these critical assets is highlighted. Research gaps are identified in the standardization and integration of condition assessment tools for distribution system operators.

Since power transformers are the most important pieces of equipment in electricity transmission and distribution systems, special attention must be paid to their maintenance in order to keep them in good condition for a long time. This paper reviews the main steps in the process of diagnosing the health of power transformer insulation, which involves the science of analysing the gases dissolved in power transformer oil for effective identification of faults. An accurate diagnosis of incipient faults is favourable to sustainable development and necessary to maintain a reliable supply of electricity. The methods presented for fault diagnosis in mineral-oil-immersed power transformers are divided into analytical and graphical methods and have been found to be simple, economical and effective. After describing the methods, both their strengths and weaknesses were identified, and over the years, the methods were complemented to provide highly accurate information, validated by field inspections. This paper focuses on practical information and applications to manage maintenance based on accurate and up-to-date data. The contents of this paper will be of particular use to engineers who manufacture, monitor and/or use high-power transformers in the energy sector, as well as to undergraduate, master’s and PhD students interested in such applications.
