Review Paper on Power Quality Issues and Its Mitigation Techniques

Abstract

Various power quality issues happening in power system and its mitigation techniques are briefly explained in this paper. There is large demand of power for which the power system needs to be upgraded for the stability and reliability of the power system network, it is necessary for the betterment of power quality. Electric power quality (PQ) is normally used for accessing better power quality at the point of generation, transmission, distribution. Voltage, current and frequency are the main criteria for the estimation of the quality of power. Problems on quality of power can be considered as the difference between the supply power quality and the required power quality for the smooth operation of the system. Some advanced power electronic based Custom Power Devices (CPDs) such as dynamic voltage restorer (DVR) distributed static synchronous compensator (D-STATCOM) and UPQC have been improved as the traditional devices can’t minimize the power quality problems. The aim of this paper is to present the overview of the supply system and detect the problems related to power quality happening in the power system and to study the methods that are present for eliminating this type of problems.
