“…Training standards and credentialing guidelines (Table 1) governing the performance of peripheral angioplasty and stent procedures by vascular surgeons, interventional radiologists, and cardiologists have been reported by several vascular societies and scientific organizations. [1][2][3][4][5][6] The aim of our study is to ascertain the minimum number of AAA endograft deployments an interventional team with endovascular skills must do to be considered well trained in this technique.…”
This study shows that not only is the number of procedures important to outcome, but also the frequency with which they are performed. Based on our team's performance data, 55 cases would appear to be the minimum volume and 1 case every 10 days the minimum frequency to obtain good operative results with aortic endografting.

“…One might look to the recent history of interventional radiology as an example. Vascular surgeons and cardiologists have rapidly expanded their skill set and credentialing to perform a larger number of minimally invasive procedures, effectively waging a "turf war" on interventionalists [14][15][16]. The number of peripheral vascular interventions performed by vascular surgeons and cardiologists are on the rise, and interventionalists' market share for peripheral arterial intervention is rapidly falling [17].…”
“…3). 21,22 In summary, vascular access dissection (1) occur infrequently during cardiac catheterization, (2) may be identified promptly by routine femoral angiography, and (3) can often be treated endovascularly at the time of the index catheterization.…”

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
