Revised model of attenuation of electromagnetic waves due to rain

Abstract: The values of the rain rates were calculated by using a new revised model. The obtained values of rain rates were compared with the ITU-R (International Telecommunication Union -Radio Regulations) value ascribed to Lithuania and with ones measured in the Lithuanian Weather Stations. The dependences of rain attenuation on the frequency for three locations of Biržai, Vilnius, and Kaunas have been calculated by using the values of the rain rates R obtained here and the ITU-R value. The dependence of rain attenuat… Show more

“…In [5], an integration time of 5 minutes was used. An integration time of ten minutes was used in [6]. Due to limited availability of one-minute rainfall data in many cases, the methods of conversion of rainfall rate distribution over a long integration time into the distribution for one-minute rate have been developed.…”

“…country, city, climatic region). First attempts to predict the rain attenuation under Baltic region climate conditions are described in (Tamošiūnas et al, 2005(Tamošiūnas et al, , 2006Ivanovs & Serdega, 2006;Zilinskas et al, 2006Zilinskas et al, , 2008. It was mentioned in (Ivanovs & Serdega, 2006), that rain events produce unavailability of microwave link, which sometimes lead operators to economical losses or even license loosing.…”

“…Considering the peculiarities of Lithuania's climate, the change in (Chebil et al, 1999) model was made. This new model for the electromagnetic wave attenuation due to rain medium in atmosphere for the first time has been presented in (Tamošiūnas et al, 2006). Calculation of radio wave attenuation due to rain using annual precipitation and heavy rainfall data is described in (Zilinskas et al, 2006).…”

“…The cloud attenuation in various regions was analysed in [1,2,[7][8][9][10][11][12]. The attenuation of radio waves due to rain under Lithuanian climatic conditions was analysed in [13][14][15][16]. However, the influence of clouds on the electromagnetic wave propagation under the Lithuanian climatic conditions, as far as we know, has not been analysed.…”
