“…We are certain this is an artefact of under-recording, as we have examined theraphosid material of other genera from Suriname (this work is being prepared). This has already been speculated, but not yet confirmed, for Acanthoscurria simoensi Vol, 2000, given its presence in Brazil, French Guiana, and Guyana [21].…”

“…Remarks : Schmidt (1995: 280) gave an imprecise type locality “N-Ekuador 2000m” and cited the general nature of the data to be for the purposes of not endangering the species, so it is unclear why the data labels of the types carry false information indicating they were collected from Tena, which is a lowland habitat in Amazonian Ecuador. However, misleading or outright false localities are often found in articles by Günter Schmidt (Bertani & Fukushima 2004; Longhorn 2014; Gabriel 2020; Sherwood & Gabriel 2020; Sherwood et al 2022; Sherwood et al in prep). Gabriel (2020) discussed how vague localities given for pet trade specimens in descriptions by hobbyists are usually the result of fear that rival collectors will collect specimens from the sites.…”

Gabriel (2020) discussed how vague localities given for pet trade specimens in descriptions by hobbyists are usually the result of fear that rival collectors will collect specimens from the sites. In actuality, based on photographic records of this easily recognised species on iNaturalist verified by DS, we conclude that P. ultramarinus occurs in the inter-Andean valley of Chota, in the provinces of Imbabura and Carchi.…”
