“…Moreover, a recent population-based study reported increased risks for schizophrenia spectrum disorders among children and adolescents who received glucocorticoid treatment (76). Of particular relevance to our findings, corticosteroids are among the most common types of treatment for psoriasis and pemphigoid 77, 78, 79 and some forms of autoimmune anemia (80). However, corticosteroids are also commonly used in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis (81), which was negatively associated with psychosis.…”

“…The pharmacological target site is the D-vitamin receptor expressed by keratinocytes present in the lower epidermis, where calcipotriol inhibits proliferation and normalizes differentiation of keratinocytes during psoriasis (Knudsen et al, 2012). In a systematic quantitative review of 37 randomized controlled trials including a total of 6038 patients with moderate plaque psoriasis, the efficacy of calcipotriol is found to be comparable to that of potent corticosteroids after 8 weeks of treatment and better than that of calcitriol, tacalcitol, coal tar, and dithranol (Carrascosa et al, 2009). A major challenge for dermal drug delivery of calcipotriol is its hydrophobic nature and low penetration through impermeable stratum corneum.…”

“…The applications of corticosteroids, especially to large areas, when the skin is injured, or under occlusive dressings may led to their absorption and systemic side-effects [ 1 ]. The local corticosteroids efficiency depends, at the first place, on their pharmacological potency and ability to be absorbed into the target epidermis and dermis cells [ 2 , 3 , 4 ]. Topical steroids can be divided into different groups due to their potencies.…”
