“…The use of PMMA bone cement as a vehicle for antibiotic delivery to the site of implant infection has been well documented (16,17). With antibiotic-resistant bacterial infections becoming more commonplace, increased attention has been given to the addition of various antibiotics, as well as the addition of silver particles, to PMMA bone cement (16)(17)(18)(19)(20)(21)(22). Antibioticladen bone cement is used in both the prevention and treatment of periprosthetic infections.…”

“…Implant exchange procedures to address periprosthetic infection have been described in dogs, but are associated with significant morbidity (Massat & Vasseur , Dyce & Olmstead , Torres & Budsberg ). Several treatment options have been described in humans (Spangehl et al , Peel et al ); however, explantation remains the treatment recommendation in small animals (Tigges et al , Massat et al , Iwata et al , Allen ).…”

“…[4][5][6][7][8] Inappropriate acetabular component insertion angle (not following the reamed path) may result in incomplete acetabular component seating and a polar gap visible on postoperative radiographs, while acetabular component malpositioning may result in reduced impingement-free range of motion and may increase the risk of luxation. 5,[9][10][11][12] The ability to accurately, consistently and quantitatively assess acetabular component position has the potential to improve patient outcomes. Acetabular component position is evaluated by considering the three orthogonal planes (sagittal, dorsal and transverse).…”
