Revision of the malagassy endemic genus Amberana Distant (Hemiptera, Cercopidae) with description of one new genus

Abstract: The genus Amberana Distant is revised. Three new species, A. attei Soulier-Perkins sp. n., A. ouvrardi Soulier-Perkinssp. n. and A. pascali Soulier-Perkins sp. n. are described. Lectotypes are designated for A. dimidiata (Signoret, 1960), A.fissurata Jacobi, 1917, A. noualhieri (Lallemand, 1920), A. sexguttata (Melichar, 1915) and A. uncinata Jacobi, 1917. Am-berana tripunctata var. completa Lallemand, 1949 and A. tripunctata Lallemand, 1920 are synonymised with A. bergevini(Lallemand, 1920). A new genus, Bour… Show more

“…European Journal of Taxonomy 778: 90-135 (2021) Some specimens were collected using a light trap, thus very little information on their natural history is available to date. Such positive phototaxy was also reported by Soulier-Perkins & Kunz (2012). Their host-plants remain unknown, even if, some species of both genera were observed alighting on the leaves of different plants of secondary and primary forests.…”

“…Photos of the habitus were taken using a Canon EOS 6D with a Macro Lens Canon EF 100 mm f/2.8, viewed on computer with the software Canon EOS utility and then assembled with the software Helicon Focus 6. Terms used for the male genitalia are those of Soulier-Perkins and Kunz (2012) . Qgis 3.10 (2020) was used to draw the distribution map.…”

“…Those subgenital plates are a pair of plates arising from the IXth sternite for all the cercopoids 38 44 , Cicadellidae 45 , 46 and Membracidae 47 50 . The term lateral plate is used for the Cercopidae for the first time by Liang and Webb 3 then Soulier-Perkins and Kunz 23 . These plates are present in some tribes of the old world Cercopidae, they arise like the subgenital plates from the IXth sternite.…”

“…For these reasons, we suggest changing the term lateral plate to sterno-lateral plate for the Cercopidae in order to emphasise their different origin. The appendages on each side of the aedeagus are generally named parameres in Cercopidae 6 , 12 , 15 , 22 , 23 and Machaerotidae 52 when the term style is preferred for the Aphrophoridae 39 43 , Clastopteridae 42 , 44 , Epipygidae 38 and Membracoidea 46 50 . Even though the term style is used for the Fulgoromorpha the term gonostyle is widely used as well 51 , 53 .…”
