Revisit to three-dimensional percolation theory: Accurate analysis for highly stretchable conductive composite materials

Abstract: A percolation theory based on variation of conductive filler fraction has been widely used to explain the behavior of conductive composite materials under both small and large deformation conditions. However, it typically fails in properly analyzing the materials under the large deformation since the assumption may not be valid in such a case. Therefore, we proposed a new three-dimensional percolation theory by considering three key factors: nonlinear elasticity, precisely measured strain-dependent Poisson’s r… Show more

“…The other mechanism utilizes the changing resistivity of the resistor material, such as the conductive particle–polymer composite. When a force is applied to the conductive particle–polymer composite, the effective resistance value is lowered as the inter-particle spacing between the conductive particles is reduced and the contact area is increased to improve the electrical path (i.e., percolation effect) [ 101 , 102 , 103 ]. Typically, piezoresistive pressure sensors have the following advantages: low cost, simple structure and working principle, and a relatively easy fabrication process.…”

“…[39], we used the method of Padé approximants for estimating the concentration dependence of the effective elastic modulus of MAE for the two-dimensional case and obtained an analytical expression for pc(H). Recently, a strain-dependent percolation threshold in highly stretchable conductive composite materials has been reported [40].…”
