Revisiting Cystic Lung Disease - A Review on Diagnostic Approach in High Resolution Computed Tomography Thorax

Abstract: The differential diagnosis of the cystic lung disease is extensive, ranging from an isolated incidental lung cyst to multiple diffuse lung cysts with other varied associated lung abnormalities. High resolution computed tomography (HRCT) thorax is the imaging modality of choice in the evaluation of these diseases, by improving the characterisation of the lung cysts (number, size, shape, distribution, wall thickness and regularity), and associated pulmonary and extrapulmonary abnormalities (like ground glass den… Show more

“…The cysts are reversible in few cases,[ 4 ] or may persist after completion of therapy. [ 8 ] When conventional methods fail to diagnose such cases with high suspicion of PTB, lung biopsy especially transbronchial lung cryobiopsy (TBLC) can be an alternative. The TBLC technique provides a greater volume of tissue specimens, with greater alveolated and architectural preservation, as well as less crush artifact; hence it improves the yield compared to flexible forceps biopsy.…”
