This paper presents author experience with software development during last forty years. It is divided into three eras: closed and open -systems and Internet of Everything, each covered by challenges, issues and solutions. The main stream is given from the interoperability perspective and flavored by security issues. Variety of applications domains, that author faced during his carrier, each with own challenges, is presented. Example include computer graphics systems, special-purpose solutions, business-to-business, business process management, e-government, and smart cities.

ResumoO campo das máquinas sociais ainda é uma área nova, sem uma definição que tenha o senso comum dos pesquisadores, isso cria algumas dificuldades para entender qual o conceito, ou qual projeto de máquinas sociais devemos escolher. Este trabalho tem como objetivo investigar de forma detalhada, os trabalhos apresentados nas oficinas de máquinas sociais e nas principais bases de dados, a partir desta análise criamos um mapa de estudo, um esquema de categorização das obras e também gráficos de bolhas entre as categorizações. Foi produzido panorama da área de máquinas sociais, através da identificação dos principais tópicos, tipos, tendências e desafios através desta pesquisa preliminar, além de definir a maturidade das contribuições existentes. Este trabalho fornece uma base conceitual para a compreensão da área e também detecta os problemas de pesquisa e lacunas existentes no campo das máquinas sociais. AbstractThe field of social machines is still a new area, without a definition that has the common sense of researchers, this creates some difficulties to understand which concept, or which social machine project we should choose. This work aims to investigate in detail the work presented in the social machine workshops and in the main databases, from this analysis we create a study map, a categorization scheme of the works and also graphs of bubbles between the categorizations. It was produced a landscape of the area of social machines, was by identifying the main topics, types, trends and challenges through this preliminary research, as well as defining the maturity of existing contributions. In addition, Kajan emphasizes the need to develop a new generation of -semantically,knowledge, and evenintelligence driven mediators that should be capable to deal with an unpredictable behavior of social world populated with entities that have sensing and responding capabilities at the same time [6]. This paper is motivated by a fact that many people are suffering by the bad air quality in high-populated urban areas, especially those who suffer from asthma, lung problems, allergy, and other problems connected to the respiratory system.…”

Towards Context-Aware Smart Healthcare Platform

This paper deals with the context-aware smart healthcare platform, based on IoT and citizen sensing. The proposed platform provides support to smart cities' citizens in the form of air quality visualization in their surroundings and by appropriate notifications in case of dangerous pollutants level is sensed. It also provides medical assistance based on "help needed" function, and where available, on the medical record of a patient that uses the platform services. The platform is interactive, so the information sent by the users and the requests for help will be processed. Platform development is based on a special kind of social machine that is capable to capture the city's sensors data, analyze these data and to interact with appropriate business processes. On return, that interaction results with several goals achieved with the project. Presented dashboard visualization allows decision makers, e.g. medical staff, to take proper actions on time and on-the-fly. On the other side, citizens that suffer from a variety of disease problems are able to report an air pollution incident, and ask for help, if they felt worse. The platform itself has a wider usability value and may be deployed to other smart services in a city, e.g. waste management, smart transportation, energy savings, etc. It is also scalable and open for a variety of sensor devices ranges from smartphones, wearables, and other IoT that resides in a smart city, and for different forms of crowdsensing methods. Finally, concluding remarks emphasize the future research directions.
