REVOHPR: Relay-based Void Hole Prevention and Repair by Virtual Routing in Clustered Multi-AUV Underwater Wireless Sensor Network

Abstract: Underwater Wireless Sensor Networks (UWSN) enables various oceanic applications which require effective packet transmission. In this case, sparse node distribution, dynamic network topology and inappropriate selection of relay nodes cause void holes. Addressing this problem, we present a Relay based Void Hole Prevention and Repair protocol (ReVOHPR) by multiple Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUV) for UWSN. ReVOHPR efficiently identifies and avoids void holes and trap relay nodes to avoid it. ReVOHPR adopts th… Show more

“…As the number of nodes increases, the delay increases, because the CHs receive more packets from the sensor nodes. The comparison of the proposed work with the other protocols from [37] shows that the proposed work had less delay time than all of the other protocols with Figure 7 illustrates the network delay in relation to the number of nodes. As the number of nodes increases, the delay increases, because the CHs receive more packets from the sensor nodes.…”

“…Moreover, even when the packet size in [29] was smaller than the packet size in the proposed work herein (packet size: 500 bytes), the energy consumption in [29] was still higher. The chart in Figure 5 compares the proposed work and the previous protocols used in [37] in the aspect of consumed energy. The proposed work provided a reasonable consumption of energy with 10 nodes, in comparison to the ReVOHPR protocol.…”

“…More and more scholars are also gradually focusing on vulnerability repair. A Chaff s team research designs a relay-based Void Prevention and Repair (ReVOHPR) protocol for Underwater Wireless Sensor Networks (UWSNs), realizing efficient packet transmission and energy balancing proposed results show that this protocol, compared to the existing protocols, is more effective in balancing the energy and quality, and improves the UWSN's data transmission efficiency [9]. Feng's team research addresses the problem of node failure in wireless sensor and actuator networks, and proposes an efficient localization scheme for repairing the damaged actuator network topology in case of a single actuator node failure.…”
