RGB-Infrared Cross-Modality Person Re-identification

Abstract: Person re-identification (Re-ID) is an important problem in video surveillance, aiming to match pedestrian images across camera views. Currently, most works focus on RGB-based Re-ID. However, in some applications, RGB images are not suitable, e.g. in a dark environment or at night. Infrared (IR) imaging becomes necessary in many visual systems. To that end, matching RGB images with infrared images is required, which are heterogeneous with very different visual characteristics. For person Re-ID, this is a very … Show more

“…To our best knowledge, in the literature there are only five pioneer works about visible-thermal person Re-ID. RGB-Infrared Cross-Modality Person Re-Identification [27]. Wu et al firstly proposed to address the the RGB-IR cross-modality Re-ID problem and contributed a new multiple modality person Re-ID dataset named SYSU-MM01.…”

“…Therefore, it is necessary to study the cross-modality person Re-ID problem. In this paper, we address the visible-thermal person Re-Identification (VT Re-ID) in a 24-hour intelligent surveillance system, which is also termed as RGB-infrared person Re-ID [27].…”

“…In addition, the spectrum between IR and *Corresponding author Email address:yangdxng100@126.com (Zhao Yang) RGB images is different. So, the method for RGB-based person Re-ID can not be adopted in RGB-IR cross-modality person Re-ID problem effectively [8]. To address this issue, some methods have been proposed in this field.…”

“…To address this issue, some methods have been proposed in this field. Wu et al [8] released a large-scale cross-modality person Re-ID dataset and proposed a deep one-stream architecture named zero-padding network. In the training stage of zero-padding network, Cross-Entropy (CE) loss function is used to supervise the network.…”
