Rheological and thermal behavior of starch/LDPE blends containing EAA

Abstract: The composite casts were prepared from native corn starch and low density polyethylene. Ethylene-arylic acid copolymer (EAA) was added as compabilizer and glycerol was added as plasticizer in the formulation. Their rheological and thermal properties were evaluated by capillary rheometry, differential scanning calorimerty, and thermogravimetry analysis. The results show that the viscosity of the blend has an Arrhenius dependence on temperature and a power law dependence on shear rate. The power law exponents (a… Show more

“…1 shows effect of pH on the reaction extent of DASt with the EDA (expressed as Nitrogen content). The reaction was carried out at 35 • C for 2 h, pH 5.5, using 10 mmol DASt, an EDA:DASt molar ratio 4:1, and varying pH (2)(3)(4)(5)(6)(7)(8).…”

“…[27][28][29][30][31][32] To increase the compatibility of LDPE/starch blends, modified or nonnative starch has been used, such as pregelatinized starch, 11 crosslinked starch, 14 octanoated starch, 18,19,33 starch acetate, 20 hydropropylated starch, 21 and phthalated starch. 34 Polyethylene graft copolymers have been widely used as compatibilizers with other polymers; they include polyethylene grafted with maleic anhydride (PE-g-MA), 1,3,5,6,17,24,25,35,36 polyethylene grafted with glycidyl methacrylate, 10,27 LDPE grafted with dibutyl maleate, 31 LDPE grafted with itaconic acid, 32 an ethylene/acrylic acid copolymer, 16,37 and polyethylene grafted with styrene-co-maleic anhydride polymer. 38 Other polymers used as compatibilizers include an ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymer, 2 an ethylene/vinyl alcohol copolymer, 28 and a functionalized metallocene copolymer.…”

“…On the above outlined techniques, adsorption is most preferred for the removal of heavy metal ions due its high efficiency, easy handling and availability of a variety of adsorbents [7]. Search for the novel adsorbents for the sorption of toxic heavy metal ions has also become the focus of attention on many studies [8,9]. Viable variant polymer blends and composites were used as adsorbents [10].…”
