Rheology of Structured Liquids. “Neutonian” Behavior

Vladimir N. Matveenko,
Eugine A. Kirsanov

Abstract: The behavior of low molecular weight non-Newtonian fl uids (liquid paraffin, silicone oil, FC70 oil) in which shear thinning is observed at low shear rates is considered. Over a large range of high shear rates, a behavior similar to the “Newtonian” behavior is observed, where the shear viscosity is practically constant. An explanation of this type of “Newtonian” fl ow from the point of view of a structural rheological model is proposed.
