“…Previous studies of rhodium in argon ͑without mass selection͒ had also identified a 495 nm feature, but this was attributed to rhodium trimers. 12 The authors of Ref. 12 also reported optical absorption spectra for atomic rhodium in the range 250-400 nm, and these data are in good agreement with excitation spectra following the deposition of Rh ϩ in argon.…”

“…This maximizes the interaction between rhodium and oxygen and shows the full extent of their chemistry under extreme conditions. The reaction of thermally generated rhodium atoms and dioxygen has been studied in inert matrixes previously, and numerous rhodium dioxygen species were identified; , however, many of these assignments are incorrect, as thermal rhodium atoms are much more reactive than anticipated. The results of the present work are discussed within the context of the cobalt and iridium dioxygen systems, which have already been studied in this laboratory, , and comparisons between the three systems are made.…”

“…For Ni, Pd, and Pt atoms, M(0 2 ) 2 species of D 2d symmetry were proposed, and this bonding would be predicted by Dewar-Chatt-Duncanson reasoning. 102 ' [165][166][167][168] In these ο ο…”

“…Spectroscopic identification of matrix isolated dimers and trimers of Group VIII metals has been carried out by Ozin and Moskovits and their co-workers. For example, the molecules Rh 2 and Rh 3 have been characterized by UVvisible absorption spectroscopy 168. 1 8 2 These small molecules were then as mentioned previously, further statistical and kinetic treatments of metal atom dimerization in rare gases and in reactive matrices have been carried out by Moskovits and Hülse,179 and simple models have been pro posed.…”
