Ribes fasciculatum var. chinense Attenuated Allergic Inflammation In Vivo and In Vitro

Abstract: Ribes fasciculatum var. chinense MAX. (R. fasciculatum) has traditionally been used in Korea to treat inflammatory diseases. However, the exact mechanism that accounts for the anti-inflammatory effect of R. fasciculatum is not completely understood. We aimed to ascertain the pharmacological effects of R. fasciculatum on both compound 48/80- or histamine-induced scratching behaviors and 2, 4-dinitrochlorobenzene (DNCB)-induced atopic dermatitis (AD) in mice. Additionally, to find a possible explanation for the … Show more

“…Male BALB/c mice were sensitized with 0.15% DNCB applied to the dorsal skin twice per week for five weeks; after three weeks, R. fasciculatum (200 mg/kg) was orally administered two weeks until the end of the experiment. Treatment of animals with R. fasciculatum extract significantly reduced the atopic dermatitis and IgE levels in serum induced by the application of DNCB [ 64 ].…”

“…Many studies demonstrate protective effects of CO on hepatitis, osteoporosis, oxidative stress and obesity [24][25][26]. Ribes fasciculatum (RF) is also a common alternative traditional medication against inflammatory conditions such as allergy, aging and autoimmunity in Asia [27][28][29]. Despite the beneficial effects of these natural plants, combination CO and RF extracts for weight loss have not been reported.…”

“…Interestingly, a selective COX-2 inhibitor (rofecoxib) has been shown to strongly reduce inflammatory symptoms in the stomachs of mice treated with HCl/EtOH (Jung et al, 2014), indicating that COX-2-generated PGE 2 can cause gastric ulcers in this model. Therefore, the ability of Xs-ME to inhibit NO and PGE 2 production and to downregulate the expression of iNOS and COX-2 ( Fig.…”

“…Most studies on inflammation have focused on the systemic, cellular, and molecular mechanisms of inflammatory responses (Hossen et al, 2015b). However, hyperactive and prolonged inflammation is known to cause various chronic diseases including cancer, diabetes, atherosclerosis, autoimmune disorders, arthritis, and vascular diseases (Ham and Moon, 2013;Jung et al, 2014;Kim et al, 2014a;Lyman et al, 2014;Momi et al, 2012). Therefore, preventing periodic upregulation of chronic inflammatory responses has been proposed as a potential strategy for preventing multiple diseases .…”
