RIG-E, a human homolog of the murine Ly-6 family, is induced by retinoic acid during the differentiation of acute promyelocytic leukemia cell.

Abstract: In vivo all-trans-retinoic acid (ATRA), a differentiation inducer, is capable of causing clinical remission in about 90% of patients with acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL). The molecular basis for the differentiation ofAPL cells after treatment with ATRA remains obscure and may involve genes other than the known retinoid nuclear transcription factors. We report here the ATRA-induced gene expression in a cell line (NB4) derived from a patient with APL. By differential display-PCR, we isolated and characterized… Show more

“…46 Elucidation of the cascade of events leading to APL cell maturation by retinoids should benefit from the identification of RAR␣ targeted genes (primary targets), and also sets of genes that downstream are indirectly activated or repressed (secondary targets). Using a 'differential display' approach 47 we have identified new genes, RIG-E, 48 RIG-G, 49 and JEM-1, 50 that are modulated during retinoid-induced maturation of NB4 cells. These genes should serve as additional cell response markers; the elucidation of the mechanism of their transcriptional regulation should help to identify novel signalling pathways operating during APL cell maturation.…”

“…Certainly, CD59 homologues have been characterized in rabbit (14), rat (15), pig (16), and mouse (17). At the present time human homologues for several mouse Ly-6SF members are known, including ThB (18), Ly-6H (19), and TSA-1/Sca-2/RIG-E (20,21). In addition, the human urokinase plasminogen activator receptor (uPAR) consists of three Ly6SF domains (22,23).…”

“…As a biological target, Ahr was best predicted by lymphocyte antigen 6e (Ly6e), a retinoic acid-responsive gene involved in T-cell activation (Mao et al 1996; Schedlich (Ahr,Cyp1b1,Lox,and Opn) are illustrated as described by Breitkreutz et al (2003) to identify focused gene networks regulated by the Ahr.…”
