Abstract:New general results of non-existence and rigidity of spacelike submanifolds immersed in a spacetime, whose mean curvature is a timeoriented causal vector field, are given. These results hold for a wide class of spacetimes which includes globally hyperbolic, stationary, conformally stationary and pp-wave spacetimes, among others. Moreover, applications to the Cauchy problem in General Relativity, are presented. Finally, in the case of hypersurfaces, we also obtain significant consequences in Geometrical Analysi… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
