“…Our center has a long tradition of delivering breech-presenting fetuses vaginally [2], and induction of labor is performed for obstetric complications when criteria for vaginal delivery are fulfilled and there are no signs that the fetus is in immediate jeopardy. Our preferred method of induction for patients with an unripe cervix and vertex, as well as breech presentation, is a balloon catheter with extra-amniotic saline instillation which has been reported as being successful and safe for the vertex presentation [3][4][5], commenced concomitantly with oxytocin. This study was therefore conducted to evaluate the efficacy and safety of labor induction in patients with a breech presentation.…”

“…Extra-amniotic instillation of saline solution with an intracervical Foley catheter was used in the past, and in recent years interest in this has been renewed. Balloon catheterization with extra-amniotic saline instillation has been described as successful in effecting second-trimester abortion ( 1,2), inducing labour in cases of antepartum fetal death (3) and for different obstetric indications (4)(5)(6). A balloon catheter with extra-amniotic saline instillation is used mainly for ripening of the cervix and oxytocin infusion is used for augmentation when needed after ripening of the cervix is proved (4), or after the balloon is expelled (5).…”
