Risk Assessment and Prediction of Rebleeding in Bleeding Gastroduodenal Ulcer

Abstract: This study demonstrates that the proposed prognostic score, which is easily obtained after emergency endoscopy, is useful in clinical practice because it can identify patients with different levels of rebleeding risk. It can be helpful in patient management and decision making for discharge.

“…There are, however, data from other areas of the gastrointestinal tract to suggest that ulcer size is correlated to bleeding rate. 33,34 Our rate of bleeding after elective variceal band ligation (three bleeding episodes in a total of 86 sessions, or 3.5%) is similar to that previously reported by other groups. All three of the bleeding episodes were from postbanding ulcers, and all were in patients treated with placebo.…”

“…Despite successful endoscopic therapy, overall rebleeding rate was 20.7%, which is similar to the result of the earlier study or somewhat higher than that of other studies (5,10,21). The exclusion of patients who experienced spontaneous hemostasis without endoscopic treatment and those who had inactive ulcers might cause increased rate of rebleeding in our study.…”

“…The rate of rebleeding after epinephrine monotherapy has been reported relatively high, showing 13%-21% in previous studies (10,24,25). In addition, the number of patients with epinephrine monotherapy had higher in rebleeding group than in control (21).…”
