Risk Assessment of Express Delivery Service Failures in China: An Improved Failure Mode and Effects Analysis Approach

Abstract: With the rapid growth of express delivery industry, service failure has become an increasingly pressing issue. However, there is a lack of research on express service failure risk assessment within the Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) framework. To address the research gap, we propose an improved FMEA approach based on integrating the uncertainty reasoning cloud model and the Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) method. The cloud model describing randomness and fuzzin… Show more

“…However, errors can occur at any stage during the service delivery process, resulting in the delivery failure. All variables that disrupt service delivery or cause service failure, whether objective or subjective, have a negative influence on customers' experience and both sellers and service suppliers (Shan et al, 2021). From a business's perspective, delivery failure increases the cost of product returns, communication, and re-delivery.…”

“…Liu, X et al [35] introduced an option contract to coordinate the supply chain of express services, which greatly alleviated the limited service capacity of express delivery companies during the peak sales season. Shan, HM et al [36] conducted a study on express service failure risk assessment and proposed an improved FMEA method that helps express delivery companies to identify critical service failure points, develop appropriate remedial measures, reduce losses from service failure and improve service quality. Lei, Z et al [37] constructed a new evaluation index system based on the SERVQUAL model and the CCSI model, considering the perspective of service quality.…”
