Risk behaviours of homeless people who inject drugs during an outbreak of hepatitis C, Northern Ireland, 2016‐2017

Abstract: It is estimated by the World Health Organisation that 71 million people live with a chronic hepatitis C infection worldwide. 1 With 16%-41% of chronically infected people developing cirrhosis or liver cancer over 30 years of infection, hepatitis C is a major public health issue. 2 More effective and safer therapies are now available, achieving cure rates above 95%. 3
