“…The lower but significant intraclass ROR supported the existence of a disease-related susceptibility to ICDs not sufficient to explain the disproportionality of TGAs, lurasidone [a recent antipsychotic for which a case of hypersexuality has already been recorded ( Reddy et al, 2018 )], and olanzapine and ziprasidone (limited to hyperphagia). The high proportion of aripiprazole-related ICD cases in which the primary indication for use was a mood disorder is in line with the hypothesis that depression may be a synergistic risk factor for impulsive-compulsive behaviors ( Cao et al, 2021 ).…”

“…Regarding the effects of safinamide on ICD, a similar action to amantadine has been suggested. Even though several meta-analyses, which included cross-sectional studies, showed the use of amantadine as a factor related to ICD [28], several small-scale prospective interventional studies showed that pathological gambling and punding were improved by amantadine [29,30]. Amantadine enhances dopamine release and acts as an N-methyl-Daspartate receptor antagonist, and its anti-glutamatergic action may show benefits in ICD.…”

“…80 Demographic correlates include male sex, younger age at PD onset, and longer PD duration. 81 Dopamine agonist (DA) treatment is the strongest ICD predictor 78 80 ; higher dose levodopa, 78 amantadine, 82 and selective MAO-B inhibitors 83 have also been associated with ICD to a lesser extent. DDS is most associated with higher levodopa doses.…”

“…Recent national multi-site studies reported longitudinal cross-sectional prevalence rates of 25-30%79 and a cumulative incidence rate of 46% 80.
