“…Both studies, as well as other studies of specific cancer types, suggest that younger cancer patients are at higher risk of depression than older patients. 11,[22][23][24] The risk of MDD was also somewhat higher in women than in men in our study, consistent with the Swedish study. 11 The risk of MDD was elevated across a range of cancer types, with the highest risk seen in patients with multiple cancer sites, pancreatic cancer, brain/central nervous system cancer, and oral cavity/ pharynx cancer.…”

“…Our findings are consistent with those of previous studies. 1416 In addition, other risk factors have been found to be associated with mental disorders in hospitalized patients including old age, 4 cancer, 5 coronary heart disease, 6,7 and surgery. 7 If the leading doctor considers the risks above, he/she may diagnose psychiatric disorders more accurately and may even be able to implement some intervention measures.…”

“…Despite the substantial morbidity of psychiatric disorders, many nonpsychiatric physicians do not recognize these disorders or simply prescribe benzodiazepines, and this situation has become very concerning. Previous studies have shown that sleep disorders, 1 old age, 4 cancer, 5 coronary heart disease, 6,7 and surgery 7 are risk factors of psychiatric disorders, and these factors can thus be used to help detect possible psychiatric conditions. However, there are few studies on the risk factors of psychiatric disorders in which the chief complaint is related to sleep.…”
