Risk of soil contamination by heavy metals through gas-dust emissions

Abstract: The risk of chronic and emergency contamination of soils by heavy metals through gas-dust emissions by the method protected by the patent of the Russian Federation No. 2617533 on an invention including contamination diagnostics by means of the dehydrogenase enzyme activity analysis is estimated. This method of diagnostics allows to reduce time, to increase the accuracy and quality of examination on territories with an unsuccessful geoecological situation.

“…Bioanalytical techniques mainly include biosensor and enzyme assays, but they are rarely applied in practice due to the difficulty of matching relevant enzymes and complexes. 4,5 Chemical analytical techniques include atomic absorption spectrometry, atomic uorescence spectrometry, and inductively coupled plasma emission spectrometry. [6][7][8] These chemical assays have a large detection range but long pre-treatment time and complex detection processes and are only suitable for laboratory analysis.…”

“…There are important health risks associated to wastewater use for agriculture, which is a probable source of HMs such as Fe, Cu, Mn, Zn, Cd, Ni, Cr, and Pb 10 . Human can get "his share" of HMs not only directly from the inhaled air and soil dust, but also through food produced on contaminated agricultural lands 11 . Monitoring studies for 1996-2006 in the city of Yerevan, the accumulation of certain elements (Pb, Ni, Cu) in vegetables in concentrations exceeding many times the maximum allowable concentrations was revealed.…”

“…A significant environmental problem in the Kursk region is the high load on the atmospheric air, as the region has developed various types of industry and energy. The annual volume of emissions into the atmosphere is at the level of 150-170 thousand tons, which is the cause of pollution of agricultural lands with heavy metals [4,5].…”
