“…For skin blotting, the biomarkers were albumin for skin barrier function (17), nerve growth factor β (NGFβ) for epidermal inflammation (18), interleukin (IL) 2 for Th1 inflammation (19) and TSLP for Th2 inflammation (20). The presence of those biomarkers on the blotting membrane has been validated previously (7,14,17,21,22). We confirmed the validity of skin blotting for measuring albumin and NGFβ to detect itching of the skin in older adults (7).…”

“…According to guidelines and expert consensus (Broadhurst et al, 2017 ; Fumarola et al, 2020 ; Gorski et al, 2021 ), risk assessment and prevention are key to MARSI management. At present, MARSI risk assessment tools for children (Huang et al, 2019 ; Vance et al, 2015 ) and elderly patients (Minematsu et al, 2021 ) have been developed and widely used, but few risk assessment scales for PICC insertion sites for oncology patients have been established. This study aims to construct a scientific and evidence‐based MARSI risk assessment scale at PICC insertion sites for oncology patients, which will provide a foundation for clinical caregivers to identify patients at risk of MARSI in an early stage and carry out targeted interventions so as to reduce the incidence of MARSI.…”

“…The simplified classification devised by the International Skin Tear Advisory Panel (ISTAP) focused on three categories of degree of tissue damage, and not discolouration of flap or surrounding skin 4,22 . However, skin discolouration related to purpura and senile purpura (ecchymosis) as well as haematoma 2,12,13,15,16 as aligned to STAR 1b and 2b definitions is commonly associated with skin tears 19,[24][25][26][27][28] . These discoloured skin manifestations can arise from trauma or underlying pathological processes.…”
