Alzheimer’s disease is one of the most common neurodegenerative diseases among older people that manifests as deterioration of cognitive functions, impaired daily activities, and progressive degeneration of cerebral cortex neurons. Even up to 90% of Alzheimer’s patients develop neuropsychiatric symptoms at different stages of the disease. In some cases, neuropsychiatric symptoms appear earlier than cognitive symptoms. Neuropsychiatric symptoms worsen everyday activities, quality of life, and ability to socialise of people with Alzheimer's disease, making the diagnosis and treatment of these symptoms increasingly important. Evaluation of both cognitive and neuropsychiatric symptoms together with differentiation from primary psychiatric disorders is crucial for the correct diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease. Furthermore, neuropsychiatric symptoms can be considered as risk factors for the development of Alzheimer’s disease. Treatment is recommended with combined pharmacological and non-pharmacological measures. Despite the large number of studies, the pathogenesis of the neuropsychiatric symptoms has not been studied in depth, therefore the treatments provided are not always effective. It is recommended that neuropsychiatric symptoms should be treated through a combined approach using pharmacological and non-pharmacological measures.

The evolution of Web and service technologies has led to a wide landscape of standards and protocols for interaction between loosely coupled software components. Examples range from Web applications, mashups, apps, and mobile devices to enterprise-grade services. Cloud computing is the industrialization of service provision and delivery, where Web and enterprise services are converging on a technological level. The article discusses this technological landscape and, in particular, current trends with respect to cloud computing. The survey focuses on the communication aspect of interaction by reviewing languages, protocols, and architectures that drive today's standards and software implementations applicable in clouds. Technological advances will affect both client side and service side. There is a trend toward multiplexing, multihoming, and encryption in upcoming transport mechanisms, especially for architectures, where a client simultaneously sends a large number of requests to some service. Neurocognitive impairment due to Alzheimer's disease (previously termed Alzheimer's dementia) (AD) is the most common form of cognitive impairment worldwide. Given the anticipated increase in the population aged 65 and over, the prevalence of persons with AD is expected to increase exponentially during the next 30 years. Noncognitive neuropsychiatric symptoms (NPS) commonly occur in AD and are associated with adverse outcomes for patients and their caregivers. This review summarizes randomized, controlled trials (RCTs) published between 2004 and 2014 with a primary outcome measure of change in symptom severity for NPS in AD. Of the 388 articles initially identified through a literature search, 33 trials met inclusion criteria. Fifteen of these studies had agitation/aggression as a targeted symptom. Twenty-eight evaluated pharmacologic treatments, including psychotropics, cognitive enhancers, stimulants, and nutraceuticals. Nonpharmacologic interventions included bright light, music, exercise, and cognitive-stimulation therapies. Among the pharmacologic interventions, modest efficacy was reported with aripiprazole, citalopram, trazodone, methylphenidate, and scheduled analgesics. Significant reduction in symptom severity was reported with nearly all the nonpharmacologic interventions. Variations in methodology such as inclusion criteria, study setting, and outcome measures limit the generalizability of these results. Barriers to the implementation of nonpharmacologic interventions in clinical settings include resource and training limitations. Electroconvulsive therapy and dronabinol are promising as emerging treatment strategies. Randomized clinical trials are needed in order to validate the utility of electroconvulsive therapy and dronabinol, including where and with whom these interventions will prove most valuable.
