Ro 11–1430, a New Retinoic Acid Derivative for the Topical Treatment of Acne

Abstract: The clinical efficacy and tolerance of a new retinoic acid derivative, Ro 11–1430, in the treatment of acne vulgaris have been compared with those of tretinoin in a double-blind trial with 60 patients during 8 weeks. The efficacy of both drugs was good. Tretinoin showed a tendency to give better effect but this was not statistically significant. However, tolerance of the new derivative was better. 48 of the patients were treated with Ro 11–1430 for another 3 months with good effect and tolerance. In a long-ter… Show more

“…Vitamin A (Retinoids)) exhibited the greatest comedolytic potency. Tretinoin also gave greater reduction in comedones than motretinide [56281- in clinical studies [38]. Orally administered retinoids showed less comedolytic activity than topical retinoids in an earlier study using the rhino mouse model [39].…”

“…It is claimed to reduce numbers of comedones , but in some studies the results are little different from placebo (NORDIN et al 1981) and there is similar disagreement about the respone of inflamed lesions (CHRISTIANSEN et al 1977;NORDIN et al 1981). Unlike isotretinoin, it appears not to be sebostatic ) and does not reduce bacterial numbers.…”
