During the last few years, interest towards Enterprise Architecture (EA) has increased, not least due to anticipated benefits resulting from adopting it. For instance, EA has been argued to provide cost reduction, technology standardisation, process improvement, and strategic differentiation. Despite these benefits, the EA adoption rate and maturity are still low. Consequently, EA benefits are not realised. A major reason hindering the adoption is that EA is not understood correctly. This paper aims for minimising the effect of the lack of understanding EA to adopting EA. Based on the research conducted in Finnish public sector, we propose an improved Enterprise Architecture Adoption Method (EAAM) to overcome the EA adoption challenges. EAAM is built using Design Science approach and evaluated using Delphi method. Some practical guidelines for applying EAAM are also provided to help organisations to overcome EA adoption challenges.

Organizations strive to meet their business goals in preserving a desired harmony and collaboration between its business environment and integrated ICT. At the same time, Enterprise architecture (EA), as a high ontological analysis tool, claims that organizations could directly benefit from EA efforts in enhancing knowledge and improved decision making about the organization's people, business processes, information, and ICT applications. Massive number of EA methodologies and frameworks assist organizations in achieving their aforementioned benefits. This paper addresses the development of an EA (baseline and a target architectural effort) analysis that enables the management of a Bahraini educational department; Information Systems Department (IS-Dep) assess its readiness for investing in a new Dashboard application. Respectively, Zachman Framework (ZFW), an Architecture Development Process (ADP), and ArchiMate modeling language were employed as an analysis tool, project methodology and a rigorous architecture description provider for the business and IT stakeholders. Results reveal that 1) The whole university is facing communication and information sharing difficulties, at which more advanced application systems, should be adopted to correct this problem. 2) Every type of data and information in the university is centralized implying that lengthy and time-consuming procedures are to be tackled. In order for the IS-Dep to meet the needs of both students and academics, the system needs to be decentralized. 3) Many services are not fully utilized, so the IS-Dep should utilize them.

During the last decades the interest towards Enterprise Architecture (EA) has increased among both practitioners and scholars. One of the reason behind this interest is the anticipated benefits resulting from its adoption. EA has been argued to reduce costs, standardise technology, improve processes, and provide strategic differentiation. Despite these benefits the EA adoption rate and maturity are low and, consequently, the benefits are not realised. The support of top-management has been found to be a critical success factor for EA adoption. However, EA is often not properly understood by top-management. This is problematic as the value of EA depends on how it is understood. This paper aims for minimising the effect of this deficiency by proposing Enterprise Architecture Adoption Method (EAAM). EAAM improves the traditional EA adoption method by introducing processes helping to secure the support of top-management and to increase EA understanding. EAAM is built using Design Science approach and evaluated using Delphi.
