Robot-assisted laparoscopic augmentation ileocystoplasty in a tubercular bladder

Abstract: Some of the patients with genitourinary tuberculosis (GUTB) present to the urologist with small contracted bladders or with significant renal damage.[1] Additional reconstructive procedures are often required along with anti-tubercular treatment in these patients. These procedures commonly performed via the open approach, now have the advantage of minimally invasive approach provided by laparoscopic and robotic surgery. The technique of robot-assisted laparoscopic augmentation ileocystoplasty in a patient with… Show more

“…The procedure was completed in 300 minutes, the estimated blood loss was about 225 mL, and the bladder capacity increased to 350 mL during the seventh postoperative month. 12 In 2014, Dogra et al 13 first reported a case of robotassisted laparoscopic augmentation in a tubercular small contracted bladder. The total operative time was 420 minutes, and the estimated blood loss was 200 mL; the patient had no irritative urinary symptoms and was voiding with an insignificant postvoid residual urine volume during the sixth postoperative month.…”

“…The total operative time was 420 minutes, and the estimated blood loss was 200 mL; the patient had no irritative urinary symptoms and was voiding with an insignificant postvoid residual urine volume during the sixth postoperative month. 13 Caputo et al 14 recently reported their experience with an adult with a low capacity bladder due to neurogenic bladder dysfunction. The operative time was 286 min, and the estimated blood loss was 50 mL.…”

“…Surgery had no complications, operative time was 420 minutes, EBL was 200 mL, and the patient was discharged on postoperative day 6. At 6 months follow-up, the patient had no irritative urinary symptoms and was voiding with insignificant post-void residual volume ( 38 ). The data on outcomes and complications of open augmentation cystoplasty is more robust, with a retrospective review from the McGuire group on 106 patients with mean follow up of 37 months.…”
