Robotic-assisted surgery for excision of an enlarged prostatic utricle

Abstract: HighlightsProstatic utricle is a rare malformation originating from incomplete regression of Mullerian ducts.Mini invasive approach is considered the gold standard for surgical treatment.Few cases of robot-assisted excision have been reported in the literature. We report a case treated with robotic-assisted surgery.

“…In our case series, we observed a high prevalence of cholecystectomy and nephrectomy. There is a wide consensus in considering robotic unappropriated for these interventions, since both can be safely performed laparoscopically with a low risk of complications, lower cost, and same cosmetic result [16][17][18][19][20][21].…”

“…Symptomatic cysts require intervention. Modalities include endoscopic deroofing, transrectal ultrasound guided or transperineal cyst aspiration and sclerotherapy, endoscopic fulguration of cyst lining ( 1 , 2 ), marsupialisation of cyst into bladder ( 3 ), open / laparoscopic ( 4 ) excision of cyst, and recently robot assisted surgical excision ( 5 ).…”

“…18 Those surgeries that must access the pelvis and therefore have a narrow field may well suit a robotic approach. Indeed, there are reports of robotic-assisted excision of bladder diverticulum, 19 urachal cyst excision, 20 excision of posterior urethral diverticulae, 21 prostatic utricles, 22 seminal vesicle cyst, 23 and varicocele. 24 Paediatric general surgery As in adult surgery, inguinal hernia repairs are commonplace in paediatrics, although they are performed usually through a smaller open inguinal incision.…”
