Robust Offset-Free Speed Tracking Controller of Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator for Wind Power Generation Applications

Abstract: This article presents a robust speed tracking algorithm for a permanent magnet synchronous generator utilized for wind power generation systems, considering the machine parameter and load uncertainties. There are two major contributions: (a) a disturbance observer is designed to exponentially estimate disturbances from the model-plant mismatches and severe load torque variations, and (b) it is included in a nonlinear cascade-type proportional speed tracking controller to establish the performance recovery and … Show more

“…Clean energies such as solar power and wind power are gradually being applied in many fields [3]. In terms of electricity generation, wind power has also been widely studied [4], with its proportion in the grid increasing year by year [5]. It holds significant value for alleviating energy shortages and improving environmental pollution [6].…”

“…[22], in order to estimate the perturbations caused by parameter variations of the PMSG or by any ummodeled dynamics, a disturbance observer with simple structure is proposed to enhance the feedback controller. Considering the model-plant mismatches and severe load torque variation, a disturbance observer is designed to improve the power tracking performance for the PMSG-based wind power generation systems [23]. Focusing on these research results, DOBC has been proved to effective in reducing the effects of the internal or external disturbances in PMSG-based WECSs by compensating them from the feed-forward channel.…”

“…Nowadays, owing to major advantages such as high power density and efficiency, the permanent magnet synchronous machines (PMSMs) have rapidly replaced induction machines (IMs) for a wide range of industrial applications, including wind power systems [1][2][3][4][5][6][7]. The elimination of rotor excitation results in a considerable simplification of the machine structure and control algorithm.…”
