Rôle des abeilles sauvages et domestiques (Hymenoptera : Apoidea) dans la pollinisation de la fève (Vicia fabaL. var.major) (Fabaceae) en région de Constantine (Algérie)

Abstract: Eight bee species were observed. The wild bee Eucera numida Lepeletier and the honey bee Apis mellifera L. were the most abundant pollinators. Eucera numida seems the most effective pollinator. Their visits are all able to fertilize the fl owers. On the contrary, a third of the fl oral visits of the honey bee are "nectar robbery" through the holes made by the bumblebees at the base of the corolla. The fl oral visits of Eucera numida are also faster (m = 10 visits per minute) and the bee trips more easily the f… Show more

“…In southern Spain, 99 ± 6 % of the pollinators were positive. Benachour et al (2007) and Aouar-Sadli et al (2008) studied the pollinating insects of Vicia faba in different regions of Algeria. Species of the Eucera genus were the most abundant pollinators.…”

“…In the Broad Bean, Vicia faba L., pollination is crucial for better seed production (Benachour, Louadi, Terzo, 2007;AouarSadli, Louadi, Doumandji, 2008). During the late 1970s, a few studies were conducted in Egypt (Ibrahim, 1973(Ibrahim, , 1979El-Berry, Moustafa, Abdel-Gawad, & El-Bialey, 1974;Kamel, 1981) which showed that Apoidea are the most active and efficient pollinators of bean flowers, especially those of large size (Aouar-Sadli et al, 2008).…”

“…have been observed to be more effective pollinators of several soft fruit crops (Isaacs and Kirk, 2010;Denisow, 2004;Stubbs and Drummond, 1997;Willmer et al, 1994) and forage earlier in the day and at lower temperatures than honeybees, increasing their efficiency further in cooler climates (Isaacs and Kirk, 2010). Long-tongued bumblebees are widely observed to be the primary pollinators of several deep flowered crops, notably faba beans (Aouar-Sadli et al, 2008;Benachour et al, 2007) and red clover (Bommarco et al, 2012). With their smaller colony sizes, bumblebees are less vulnerable to overheating and resource depletion when confined in enclosed systems than honeybees (Delaplane and Mayer, 2000), making them ideal glasshouse pollinators and highly effective on several crops such as tomatoes (Banda and Paxton, 1991), strawberry (Ji-Larn et al, 2006), and sweet pepper (Ercan and Onus, 2003).…”
