Finally, thank you to my family for their patience whilst I (ab)used family time to work on the manuscript both at home and abroad, where I spent months as Visiting Scholar at Ryerson University working with Professor Anver Saloojee. My supervisor at the University of Johannesburg (UJ), Professor Mary Galvin, now that this project is done, I am sure we can get back to the business of working on the thesis. DedicationThis book is dedicated to the health workers, activists, oNompilo, amavolontiya, bureaucrats and all those whose efforts have 'saved' humanity from the perils of HIV, AIDS, TB and other sexually transmitted infections. It is a salute to the local and international development partners who reawakened the spirit of human solidarity, reminding us that, working together, we can do more. Most importantly, this is a tribute to the women of Southern Africa, mothers and grandmothers, who suspended their lives to care for the loved ones affected and infected by the HI Virus.
