Role of Additives on Emission Characteristics of Methyl Ester in Constant Speed Diesel Engine

Abstract: In this study, the outcome of adding n-butyl alcohol to jatropha methyl ester on the emissions characteristics of compression ignition engines is investigated. Single cylinder diesel engine was fuelled with n-butyl alcohol / jatropha methyl ester blends. The doping volume of n-butyl alcohol to jatropha methyl ester blends was in the range of 10, 20 and 30%. Emission parameters such as Hydro carbon (HC), Carbon monoxide (CO), Nitrogen oxides (NOX) and Smoke emissions were examined at different load conditions. … Show more

“…Many investigations have proven that adding additives (metal-based) in powder form to BD facilitates as a catalyst in boosting the engine combustion and performance and improves its fuel properties. Nanoadditives alter the chemical composition of BD and enhance the oxidation characteristics. Nanoadditives also aid the engine combustion and performance characteristics of fuel .…”

“…Addition of Al2O3 nano-additives at 25ppm and 50ppm fraction to PBD resulted in improved peak pressure which could be perhaps attributed to the improved thermal conductivity of the resulting nano-fuel mixture [9,4]. The higher thermal conductivity of nano-fuel causes the fuel combustion to begin earlier thus resulting in higher in-cylinder peak pressure.…”

“…Plasma spraying thermal barrier coating is the best method for coating a diesel engine combustion chamber. Cerium oxide promotes the oxidation for reduction of CO emission and absorbs oxygen for reduction of NO x emission (Yuvarajan et al, 2016b;Devarajan et al, 2018c). It also burns off the carbon particles deposited in the cylinder wall region which results in reduction of the HC emission (Velliyan et al, 2017).…”
