Abstract:BACKGROUND The pleura is involved in pulmonary or systemic tuberculosis by various mechanisms like delayed hypersensitivity. Tuberculous empyema usually results from failure of a primary tubercular effusion to resolve and further progresses to chronic suppurative form.
