Role of computer software tools in industrial symbiotic networks and the examination of sociocultural factors

Abstract: This article represents some principal dilemmas and challenges that need to be undertaken when conducting future research on Industrial Symbiotic Networks (ISN) using existing and efficient Computer Software Tools (CS tools). Multidimensional networks in industrial symbiosis have involved two or more stakeholders in sharing services, utility, or by‐products/waste (material, energy, and water) in order to increase value and reduce financial and environmental costs. Multidimensional networks operate as dynamic c… Show more

“…A comprehensive review of more than 584 scientific articles of IS concludes that working with local authorities, industrial associations, and other associations that coordinate IS might foster new synergies [72]. Thus, the stakeholder participation schemes aim at ensuring efficient management [26] or networking facilitation to promote trust among stakeholders to gain mutual competitive advantages [25]. In that sense, each stakeholder may accelerate the CE implementation by contributing to the IS cluster's business models [13].…”

“…Hence, a shift towards the widespread implementation of the CE will require the growth of stakeholder collaboration to create a dynamic waste-to-exchange network wherein this sort of IS initiative may be adopted [25]. Integration and coordination of various stakeholders also involve understanding their needs and operations and considering their role in the entire circular system by considering different contextual conditions [26].…”

“…Fric continues her interests in a multidisciplinary social approach to the study of IS networks and the influences of socio-cultural factors on the structuring of IS networks, concluding that most IS are underdeveloped and poorly understood [23,24]. IS networks cross the boundaries of different systems, which include the social system [25].…”

“…An important aspect for business R&D is also addressed The Commission acknowledges, that the EU and its Member States would also need to promote stronger links between researchers and business. EU research, development and innovation hubs and incubators are important to support sustainable development, not only in terms of business sustainability, but also in terms of environmental sustainability (Mileva Boshkosla et al 2018;Fric et al 2020; Džajič Uršič 2020) so researchers and businesses can meet, exchange best practices, and spur innovation. While large companies may have the means to develop their research activities in-house, this is often not the case for smalland medium-sized enterprises.…”
