Role of Grain Size and Recrystallization Texture in the Corrosion Behavior of Pure Iron in Acidic Medium

Abstract: This work investigates the role of grain size and recrystallization texture in the corrosion behavior of pure iron in 0.1 M sulfuric acid solution. Annealing heat treatment was applied to obtain samples with different average grain sizes (26, 53 and 87 µm). Optical microscopy, X-ray diffraction and electron backscatter diffraction techniques were used to characterize the microstructure. The EBSD data analysis showed ferrite phase with no inclusions and very low geometrically necessary dislocation density, indi… Show more

“…The results from Table 4 Indicate that Chitosan can increase the average crystallite size of the ZPA coating, which decreases the surface energy (grain boundaries) and improves the corrosion resistance of the coating [19]. The increase in crystallite size of ZPA/CH coatings can be due to the agglomeration of Chitosan in the coating matrix.…”

“…Table 2 shows the fitted results for the impedance spectra of 310S stainless steel in the two solutions with different concentrations under free corrosion conditions. The polarization resistance R p (i.e., corrosion resistance) is the sum of R t and R f [37,38]. In the synthetic tap water solutions, as the concentration ratio increased from 1 to 10 times, R s decreased significantly due to the enhancement of solution conductivity.…”
