Role of IL-10 and TGF-β1 in local immunosuppression in HPV-associated cervical neoplasia

Abstract: Cervical cancer is a worldwide disease that constitutes a significant public health problem, especially in developing countries, not only due to its high incidence but also because the most affected population comprises women who belong to marginalized socio-economic classes. Clinical and molecular research has identified immunological impairment in squamous intraepithelial cervical lesions and cervical cancer patients. Human Papillomavirus (HPV) has several mechanisms for avoiding the immune system: it down-r… Show more

“…Women with persistent HPV16 infection have been observed to have significantly higher Treg frequencies than HPV-negative women [65]. Also, Treg-inducing molecules like TGF-β 1 have been shown to be increased in lesions progressing from LSIL to invasive CC [66, 67]. …”

“…TGF-β additionally serves important regulatory functions in CC, as for example, the oncoproteins of HPVs may stimulate TGF-β1 expression in CC cells, which in turn suppresses the host immune surveillance towards CC, and triggers the EMT process, migration and metastasis of CC cells (30)(31)(32)(33). Endogenous TGF-β activity has been reported to limit the expression in of TSLP in intervertebral disc tissue in a steady state by suppressing nuclear factor-κB activation (17).…”

“…HA high-fat rodent diet with alcohol, H high-fat rodent diet without alcohol, A standard diet with alcohol. All groups were treated with caerulein to induce CP Concentrations of IL10 and TGFb in serum were measured to assess the effects of pReg3g on the secretion of antitumor immune cytokines [32,33]. Both lower and higher doses of pReg3g produced higher levels of serum IL10 (P \ 0.01) and TGFb (P \ 0.05) compared with those in the HAC mice (Fig.…”
