Role of lncRNA BANCR in Human Cancers: An Updated Review

Abstract: Being located in a gene desert region on 9q21.11-q21.12, BRAF-activated non-protein coding RNA (BANCR) is an lncRNA with 693 bp length. It has been discovered in 2012 in a research aimed at assessment of gene expression in the melanocytes in association with BRAF mutation. Increasing numbers of studies have determined its importance in the tumorigenesis through affecting cell proliferation, migration, invasion, apoptosis, and epithelial to mesenchymal transition. BANCR exerts its effects via modulating some tu… Show more

“…The pathogenic role of the BRAF V600E mutation in DTC is well established ( 25 ). Lin et al ( 9 ) noted that patients with the BRAF V600E mutation had longer PFS than those without the BRAF V600E mutation.…”

“…Several of them have been found to participate in the pathetiology of diverse cancers, thus being proposed as biomarkers for these conditions. The functional roles of several lncRNAs in the carcinogenesis have been extensively reviewed during recent years [ 45 50 ]. MCM3AP-AS1 is a tumor-promoting lncRNA in almost all tissues except for cervical tissue.…”

“…To date, studies on lncRNAs in thyroid cancer have been limited compared with studies on protein-coding RNAs ( 34 ). LncRNAs, such as BANCR, are relatively well-known; however, most have been only discovered recently ( 35 ). The functions of lncRNAs are dictated by their secondary structures rather than their primary sequences, and their subcellular localization is critical for their function ( 36 , 37 ).…”
