Role of Male Gender in Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy Outcome

Abstract: Background: Laparoscopic cholecystectomy is one of the most commonly performed laparoscopic procedures. Many problems occur during laparoscopic cholecystectomies like common bile duct injury, hemorrhage, and other complications. Some authors consider male gender as a risk factor for laparoscopic cholecystectomy conversion rate. Aims: To determine the effect of male gender on the outcome of laparoscopic cholecystectomy for Chronic Cholecystitis. Methods: A retrospective clinical trial was carried out at our Hos… Show more

“…Worldwide, male sex has been described to be associated with dif icult LC [8]. Other studies with large sample number has no signi icant relation between sex and dif iculty similar to results by Chndio, et al but this is in contrast with many studies and literatures showed signi icant association [9].…”

“…In our study, there was statistically signi icance in the relation between male sex and dif iculty of LC. Unequal distribution of patients on the basis of sex could have altered the results in the study Conversion rate and signi icantly higher mortality has been reported in male sex [9]. Only three males converted to open cholecystectomy due to un-controllable bleeding from cystic artery and bile and stone spillage intraperitoneal.…”

“…LC is a preferred treatment for gall stone disease and has proven to be quite advantageous over open surgery. 17,23 However, some factors like patients advancing age, severe inflammation, history of previous abdominal surgery, obesity, male gender, severe cardiovascular disease, complications during surgery, etc often necessitate conversion of LC to OC. 10,11,18 Several research studies have evidenced that higher surgical difficulties experience in men during LC and increased conversion rates as compared to women.…”

“…Data were gathered from cryogenic tests on triaxially stressed rock cubes proves that the system works adequately (More data available in Alqahtani (2015)). With the experimental system developed, high-quality data can be gathered to provide a deeper understanding of cryogenic fracturing and advance the cryogenic fracturing processes toward successful field applications.…”
