Role of Multivariate Approaches in Floristic Diversity of Manoor Valley (Himalayan Region), Pakistan

Abstract: The main source of botanical information of a particular area is its floristic checklists. Floristic study of any given area helps to evaluate the plant wealth and its potential values. To assess floristic diversity of an unexplored remote valley (Manoor Valley), frequent field visits were arranged in different growing seasons during 2015 to 2018. The life form classes and leaf spectra of all plant species were determined and further classified according to the Raunkiaer classification. Plant species were iden… Show more

“…The current project lies in the ecotonal zone of the Manoor Valley. Manoor Valley is reached from the main Kaghan Valley road at the junction 'Mahandri' [20] and is about 50 km north of Balakot [21,22]. Geographically, Manoor Valley (Figure 1) is situated in northwestern Pakistan (34.68165 N to 34.83869 N latitude and 73.57520 E to 73.73182 E longitude) as a part of the mountainous series collectively known as the Himalayas [23].…”

“…Fuelwood, timberwood, and selling plants used in herbal Unani medicine, and dry fruits, especially from Juglans regia, are the main sources of income along with agriculture. The valley preserves huge biodiversity, especially of plants [54,55], but lack of infrastructure and isolation influences the preservation of this area, resulting in a loss of biodiversity. This geographically isolated community is facing the complete lack of vital basic necessities [6]; due to isolation, most of the population was beyond the scope of this study, but an attempt has been made to highlight medicinal plants of this area that are important healthcare treasures for this community.…”

“…Geographically, the Manoor Valley [ 4 , 50 , 51 ] is situated in the north-western part of Pakistan (34.68165 N to 34.83869 N latitude and 73.57520 E to 73.73182 E longitude; 1580 to 4677 m elevation above sea level) and is part of the Himalayan mountain range. The multiple elevational layers of the research area are depicted on a georeferenced map ( Figure 1 ).…”
