Role of Nanobiotechnology Towards Agri-Food System

Abstract: The major challenge of modern agriculture is to satisfy actual and future global food demands efficiently. This great challenge requires combined efforts to preserve natural resources to support intensive agriculture while limiting detrimental impacts on the environment. One of these efforts is using nanobiotechnology. Nanobiotechnology is the application of nanotechnology in biological science. Nanotechnology is the science of manipulating materials at the nanoscale (1 nm = 10ˉ⁹ m). This review summarizes the… Show more

“…Biogenic Synthesis of NPs through plant extracts is becoming more popular due to their availability, low cost, environmentally more friendly, and non-toxic nature. Many different kinds of plants are currently being used to synthesize AuNPs, such as Terminalia catappa [167], Cinnamomum camphora [168], and Pelargonium graveolens [169], Medicago sativa [170], and many more. The synthesis of AuNPs is done for different biomedical applications, including cancer therapy and antifungal, anti-bacterial, and immune therapy.…”

“…In the pursuit of the goal to minimizing challenges, a target outlined among the United Nations' 17 sustainable development goals, nanotechnology emerges as a foremost solution. In retrospection, nanotechnology came to the forefront in the 1960s, a period ignited by the pioneering discourse of American Nobel Laureate Richard Feynman, who planted the seeds of nanoscience through his seminal talk [9] [10]. Since that pivotal breakthrough, nanotechnology has gradually yet profoundly revolutionized the agricultural sector, combatting undue reliance on chemical-based fertilizers by introduction of nano-agricultural products [11].…”
