Role of odanacatib in reducing bone loss due to endodontic disease: An overview

Abstract: Aims and Objectives:Through a comprehensive literature review, this article provides an overview of the potential role of odanacatib (ODN) in reducing bone loss due to endodontic disease.Materials and Methods:A literature review was performed in PubMed Central, MEDLINE, Cochrane Library, and EBSCO databases. The articles identified included those published between 2002 and 2016. Based on the predetermined inclusion and exclusion criteria, out of 237 articles found, 50 were selected for this review. Results:Cath… Show more

“…In patients on such therapy, endodontic treatment can be performed with normal bone regeneration around the apex. 27,33 Certain molecules like cathepsin, found at a high level in periodontal tissues, particularly in patients with periodontitis, are involved in the mechanism of entry of SARS-CoV-2 into cells. Periodontopathic bacteria could also play a direct role in the mechanism of entry of SARS-CoV-2 by cleaving the S-protein, and the cytokines produced during periodontitis could add to the cytokine storm found in the severe forms of coronavirus disease 2019.…”

“…6 In response to microbial invasion, host defenses produce a variety of pro-inflammatory mediators, such as cytokines and prostaglandins, which are involved in the induction of inflammatory cell migration and osteoclastogenesis. 7,8 Chemical-mechanical treatment, and medicaments with multiple therapeutic effects are required to eliminate pulp and periapical infection, control the inflammatory response, and induce bone mineralization. 9 Some authors have explored the osteogenic potential of natural compounds such as flavonoids for the treatment of bone diseases.…”

“…Avaliação da quantidade de bactérias presentes nos canais radiculares, por meio de escores, nos grupos sham ou ovariectomizado (OVX). Escore 0 = bactérias não detectadas; escore 1=1x10 4 células bacterianas; escore 2=1x105 ; escore 3=5x10 5 e escore 4=1x106 células bacterianas. Não foi possível encontrar diferença estatisticamente significante entre os grupos (p>0,05).…”
