Role of pituitary stalk and gland radiological status on endocrine function and outcome after endoscopic transsphenoidal surgery for non-functioning pituitary adenomas

Abstract: PurposeTo investigate endocrine function changes after nonfunctioning pituitary adenomas (NFPA) transsphenoidal surgery and to search for predictors of hypopituitarism resolution and development. MethodsWe included 117 patients with NFPA who underwent endoscopic transsphenoidal surgery from 2005 to 2019 by two neurosurgeons. 21 patients were excluded because of previous pituitary surgery or radiotherapy. We assessed symptoms at diagnosis, tumour volume, tumour removal, hormonal status at diagnosis, hormonal ou… Show more

“…With the development of artificial intelligence and data science, many studies have used radiomics methods or machine learning to predict the recurrence of brain tumors (18,21,22). However, models built by those methods lack universality between different study centers due to the heterogeneity of data collection, which is the key to the accuracy of model building.…”

“…This is compared to dogs with nonfunctional pituitary tumors being diagnosed later in the disease process after the development of clinical signs of mass effect in the brain 17 . This presentation and timing of diagnosis is similar in humans 5–7,26,27 . Rijn et al found that with increasing surgical experience, TSH remains an option for dogs with PDH and large pituitary tumors 31…”

“…17 This presentation and timing of diagnosis is similar in humans. [5][6][7]26,27 Rijn et al found that with increasing surgical experience, TSH remains an option for dogs with PDH and large pituitary tumors. 31 Sato et al determined that dogs with functional pituitary tumors of type A, grade 1 to 3 had a good prognosis following TSH and that dogs with grade 3B, 4 and 5 may not be suitable for TSH.…”
